This allows to detect errors with retrieving the item label more reliably as GetMenuItemInfo() sets the last error correctly while GetMenuString() doesn't seem to always do it and some users report apparently bogus debug messages about its failure.

Licence
wxWidgets licence is a modified version of LGPL explicitly allowing not distributing the sources of an application using the library even in the case of static linking.
