This is a simple wrapper for wxTimer::Start(timeout, wxTIMER_ONE_SHOT) but is
often more readable and is definitely better than Start(timeout, true) which
many people still use in spite of wxTIMER_ONE_SHOT existence.

Don't end the brief description at the first period if it's a period which is
part of "i.e." or "e.g.": escape the space following it to prevent Doxygen
from recognizing it as an end of sentence.

Use "wxWindows licence" and not "wxWidgets licence" (the latter doesn't
exist) and consistently spell "licence" using British spelling.

Currently exceptions thrown from this function are not passed to wxApp::
OnExceptionInMainLoop() (unlike exceptions thrown from timer event handlers).
